Chaise lounges have many meanings. It is called long chairs in French, especially in the furniture industry. It can also refer to a stretched chair, fitting under a persons legs with an armchair or upholstered back. Nowadays, modern discerning and machine manufacturing have permitted chaise lounges to be constructed and turned out more economically. It provide great comfort particularly when they are thoughtfully placed on a terrace or patio.
For centuries now the chaise lounge chair has been a symbol of elegance in homes nowadays and even way back to the elite families of old Europe. Although it was believed to have originated from Egypt and then brought into art by the Greeks whose artworks depict Greek gods and other elite reclined in chaise lounges, it has gained more popularity and sense of elegance in the Post-Revolution France where it got its name which means a long chair.
Other wood chaise lounges suitable for outdoor use include those made with other rot resistant woods, such as cedar. Wicker chaise lounges are a newer entrant to the market, but they have already become popular due to the strength and beauty of wicker, a natural material. Natural wicker is more suitable for use in patio chaise lounges where there is a roof to protect the lounge from rain, however, as wicker does not like being wet. Resin chaise lounges are safer for outdoor use.
