Other wood chaise lounges suitable for outdoor use include those made with other rot resistant woods, such as cedar. Wicker chaise lounges are a newer entrant to the market, but they have already become popular due to the strength and beauty of wicker, a natural material. Natural wicker is more suitable for use in patio chaise lounges where there is a roof to protect the lounge from rain, however, as wicker does not like being wet. Resin chaise lounges are safer for outdoor use.
Compared to indoor chaise lounges, outdoor lounges are generally cheaper and are not upholstered. They might also get less use than an indoor one, as most people seem to spend the bulk of their time indoors, watching television. Whereas upholstered lounges are strictly a luxury item in most cases, outdoor chaises may actually be a beneficial item that get people to spend more time outdoors. This makes them a better purchase for most people than a normal chaise would be.
For centuries now the chaise lounge chair has been a symbol of elegance in homes nowadays and even way back to the elite families of old Europe. Although it was believed to have originated from Egypt and then brought into art by the Greeks whose artworks depict Greek gods and other elite reclined in chaise lounges, it has gained more popularity and sense of elegance in the Post-Revolution France where it got its name which means a long chair.
