Most indoor benches are wood, or they have at least some wood in them. The first thing to think about when selecting a bench is the type and color of the wood you already have in your home. If the bench will go in a room where you have other furniture, try to match the wood of the bench with the other pieces. If it will go in an entryway or hallway, then think about what other things are around them.
For heavy work, a large bench made of wood is recommended. If you are going to do a light job, then you only need to get a small portable work bench. There are many different style of benches, places to put them, and uses for them. When most people here the word bench they usually think of the traditional park bench. Though the park bench is the most well known of the bench styles, it is hardly the only one.
However, oil is not recommended for outdoor benches. Oil should be reapplied every three months on indoor benches, so it probably will not last that long on outdoor teak benches. Also mildew tends to grow on outdoor benches that are oiled, so steer clear of oil if your bench is an outdoor bench. As with all quality wood furniture, it is necessary to clean your teak bench periodically. The best way to clean a teak bench is with a mixture of detergent, water, and bleach.
A solid wood bench will be a lot heavier than one made of MDF. Another important consideration to make when choosing an indoor bench is what kind of use it will see. A great way to add additional storage in any room is to add a storage bench. This type of bench is typically a large wooden case with a seat on top of it. There may even be a back on the bench, although most people will not realize that there is storage underneath the bench.
Outdoor benches are typically installed once and not moved for years. Thats why one of the most important criteria when is their solidity and longevity. Benches made of too thin parts are likely to break up after some time of using. Steel benches that are not well treated will rust and untreated wooden benches will rot. A good idea when examining the bench longevity is to check for other benches from the same model that have been used for long time.
